Diamond Jim LeatherWorks wants everyone to be able to view our work and get in touch, regardless of ability or the technology they use. We aim to meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA.
Conformance status
This website is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. “Partially conformant” means most of the content meets the standard, with the exceptions noted below. We assess conformance by manual review — keyboard-only navigation, screen-reader spot checks and contrast measurement — rather than by automated scanning alone.
What we have done
- Semantic structure — every page uses proper landmarks
(
header,nav,main,footer) and a single, logical heading order, so screen readers can navigate by structure. - Skip link — a “Skip to content” link is the first focusable item on every page.
- Keyboard access — all links, buttons, form fields and the expanding gallery panels can be operated by keyboard alone, and the gallery panels close with Escape.
- Visible focus — a high-contrast amber focus ring is shown on every interactive element.
- Colour contrast — body and heading text is light warm cream on near-black, which exceeds the 4.5:1 minimum; the amber accent is used at sizes and weights that also pass.
- Text alternatives — every meaningful image has descriptive alt text; decorative images are marked so assistive technology skips them.
- Reduced motion — the site honours the operating-system “reduce motion” setting: scroll animations, hover zooms and the looping hero video are disabled for visitors who ask for less movement.
- No motion or flashing hazards — nothing on the site flashes, and the background video is silent, muted and purely decorative.
- Responsive and zoomable — layouts reflow to 320px and text can be enlarged to 200% without loss of content or function; nothing is blocked from zooming.
- Labelled forms — every field on the commission form has a visible, associated label.
- Content without JavaScript — all text and images render with JavaScript disabled.
Known limitations
- Background video — the home page hero plays a short, silent, looping clip of hands working leather. It is decorative and conveys no information not stated in the text beside it, and it does not play for visitors who have reduced motion enabled. It cannot currently be paused manually.
- Production logos — the “As Seen On Screen” logos are images of stylised wordmarks; each carries alt text naming the production.
- Third-party content — if we later add an embedded map or payment page, parts of it will be outside our control. We will choose accessible providers where we have a choice.
Compatibility
The site is designed to work with current versions of Safari, Chrome, Firefox and Edge on desktop and mobile, together with the screen readers built into those platforms (VoiceOver and Narrator) and with NVDA. It does not support Internet Explorer.
